A long History: Founded in 1927 Istituto Luce is Europe's first state-owned film company. With a 70 years history it has become one of the most important film and photo archives in Italy and Europe. Newsreels Documentaries Historical Stock Footage - The Italian image memory. Istututo Luce Historical Film Archive all on 35mm film is made up of several collections of film archives ranging from the beginnings of cinematography to our days. The bulk of the film archives is made up of Luce's newsreels from 1927 to 1943 and includes several collections of archives of newsreeels acquired from the original sources of producers like Incom Ciak Ufa Astra and all their related editorial production. They make up something like 62 000 newsreel titles from 1927 to 1978. There are also more than 5000 documentaries and short films ranging from the silent period to the works of the masters of Italian cinema like Rossellini Antonioni and others. The unique historical stock footage comprises millions of meters of film shot for the newsreels and the documentaries. Our archive is continually being enriched with several collections. The Folco Quilici collection one of the largest nature and travel archives is the latest arrival. Photo archive: 3 000 000 photos from the beginnings of photography to the seventies make up the historical Luce photo archive and several other collections drawn from other archives where our customers have immediate access on Luce's film archives one of the world's largest library of digitised archives. In a few months the first part of 500.000 photos will also be given acces online at the same address.
