London's Home Movie Day 2026

Join us on Saturday, 24 October 2026, from 10:30 to 16:00 at the marvellous Cinema Museum in Kennington for London’s Home Movie Day!

Film archivists will be taking time out of the vaults to help the public enjoy, preserve and learn how to save their precious home movies. This year marks the 24th anniversary of Home Movie Day, and we’ll be celebrating in true archive-film style!

The event is free, open to the public and family-friendly, promising a day filled with nostalgia, discovery, education and camaraderie. 

Celebrating Families 

At 13:00, Archive Producer Ella Marsh will present a montage of her mum’s beautiful 1970s home movies — an irresistible nostalgia trip and a wonderful glimpse into family life of the era.

And remember when we all used to gather around the TV together in the evening? We’ll be taking a trip down advertising memory lane with a fantastic showreel of television adverts from the History of Advertising Trust, taking us back to the birth of independent television in 1955. There are some absolute gems that are sure to make everyone collectively go “ooh!” and “ahh!” 

You don’t need to bring a film to take part fully in the day’s activities. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a seasoned film enthusiast, curious about preserving your family memories, or simply looking for a fun and nostalgic day out.

And, of course, there will be homemade cakes, tea and coffee available throughout the day. All proceeds go towards supporting the Cinema Museum.
