BBC Motion Gallery Licenses TV Classics to Fashionable UK Gallery
BBC Motion Gallery, the footage licensing business of BBC Worldwide, has agreed a deal with new London gallery, Kemistry, to license classic BBC clips for its first exhibit.
The exhibition, Timeframes: Lodge, Jeapes and McGhie, TV Titles Pioneers, features the work of three influential designers working at the BBC during the 1960s. The clips, licensed by BBC Motion Gallery, include Doctor Who, EastEnders, Points Of View, The Late Show, Thorndyke, Colditz, Softly Softly, Life On Earth, Late Night Horror and Adam Adamant.
Celebrating the art of the title sequence, the exhibition, which runs until the end of this month, combines these moving images with stills, screen prints, storyboards and lightbox slides from artists Bernard Lodge (creator of the first three Doctor Who title sequences), Charles McGhie (Late Night Horror) and Alan Jeapes (Thorndyke).

Kemistry’s co-founder, Graham McCallum worked with these artists in BBC Design. Of the Time Frames exhibition, he says, “I wanted to capture the artists experience and recollections, and out of conversations with them, the idea of an exhibition was born which has developed into a book and other merchandise. These are classic and iconic BBC title sequences.”
