FOCAL Researchers Meeting
An informal FOCAL Researchers Meeting was held in October. Amongst the twenty Researchers who managed to attend was Lisa Savage, from Australia. She was on a whistle stop tour of Europe representing the Seven Network.

MIPCOM 2006
Many FOCAL library members were represented at the recent MIPCOM event in Cannes - either exhibiting or as "walkers".
FOCAL’s administrators were busy promoting the organisation, its services and of course calling for submissions to the FOCAL International Awards 2007.
With so many members and potential new members attending the trade show, FOCAL was grateful to Jocelyn Shearer of National Geographic Digital Motion, USA for hosting an informal reception where they could all meet.

FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2006
Sue Malden, Chair of FOCAL International and also Conference Content Director of FIAT/IFTA presented her paper on the work of the Inter-organisational Group for Archives at Risk.
The FIAT/IFTA World Conference, held in Madrid, 27th-31st October 2006 followed the theme "Saving and sharing our audiovisual heritage. The age of television archives". Three days of presentations and workshops were followed by a gala dinner at the sumptuous Casino de Madrid. The winners of FIAT’s award for best use of footage in a documentary was "Knud Rasmussen, the great Danish Greenland explorer" ( Danmarks Radio)
Sheffield Doc/Fest 2006
A number of footage libraries, along with FOCAL International (right) exhibited at the Sheffield doc/fest. The event provided valauble contacts with documentary makers and commissioning editors and FOCAL’s media lawyer Hubert Best appeared on a panel to discuss "Fair Dealing". It is to be hoped that next year the organisers can be encouraged to provide more sessions directly to do with the use of footage in documentaries.
