Medicimage, the recently launched online medical, healthcare and lifestyle image library, today (28 October) announced a multi-country sales and marketing alliance with the Photolibrary Group, the fast expanding distribution organization, as the first stage in the formation of its global distribution network.

The agreement gives Photolibrary exclusive rights to market Medicimage content in the United Kingdom and non-exclusive rights in United States, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand

In addition, Medicimage said it was in advanced negotiations with other companies to expand its network in the United States as well as into South America, Europe and Asia and detailed announcements are expected to be made shortly.

In the UK, Photolibrary will have the rights to sell Medicimage photographic and video content to print and online newspapers, broadcasters, professional medical journals, book publishers, and creative services companies; at the same time Medicimage is committed to continue to expand its current bank of 100,000 images and hundreds of hours of broadcast quality video footage shot on location in hospitals, operating theatres, research laboratories and clinics around the world.

David Davis, chairman of Medicimage, said: “This is a unique agreement which brings together the respective unrivalled strengths of specialist photojournalism and international marketing and distribution of both companies; it also introduces specifically into the UK market, for the first time in many years, a collection of much-needed fresh, original and newsworthy medical images. After considering approaches from various companies we decided to appoint Photolibrary and Oxford Scientific, its UK subsidiary, as our exclusive partners because of their undoubted sales and marketing expertise and a mutual commitment to quality.”

Glenn Parker, chief executive of the Photolibrary Group, said: “Medicimage’s photographers and TV camera teams have created imagery which sets a new industry benchmark for high quality, creativity and newsworthiness and we are naturally delighted to have been selected to represent it exclusively in the UK and also throughout our global office network. It gives our sales teams the opportunity to offer our clients access to one of the most exciting specialist collections to be produced for many years”
