TWI’s Ryder Cup Archive Ready to Tee Off
The 35th Ryder Cup Oakland Hills Country Club 17th - 19th September 2004
2 Teams, One Trophy, A Million Memories
In less than 8 weeks the 35th Ryder Cup will tee off with Europe desperate to defend their title from The Belfry. First played in 1927 the Ryder Cup originally saw the best golfers in the USA compete against Great Britain and Ireland. In the first 50 years the Americans dominated the competition until 1979 when players from Continental Europe reinforced the Great Britain Ireland team to challenge the dominant Americans.
Played once every two years, this uniquely enticing matchplay format brings the 12 best players from either side of the Atlantic together to compete for the most prestigious team trophy in golf. For 3 days in September, witness some of the world’s greats battle it out for the coveted trophy - Woods v Garcia, Mickelson v Montgomerie, who will prove to be the next hero?
The Ryder Cup Archive dates back to 1967 with over 130 hours of coverage featuring some of the greatest players in the game including Jack Nicklaus, Tony Jacklin, Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods. The Archive also has available 45 edited 30 second vignettes of the Ryder Cup’s greatest moments.
